Create a Simple Herbal Self-Care Routine You Love
When life gets busy, self-care often ends up at the bottom of the to-do list. But taking time to care for yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
Creating a regular self-care routine allows you to recharge, refocus, and show up as your best self for the people and responsibilities in your life. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or time-consuming; small, simple practices can have a significant impact when they’re done regularly.
Why Build a Self-Care Routine?

Building a self-care routine gives you something to look forward to—a specific time in your week that’s just for you. It’s a chance to pause, breathe, and reconnect with what makes you feel good.
Whether it’s a Sunday evening bath, a midweek facial steam, or a morning cup of herbal tea, setting aside even 20 minutes for yourself can make a world of difference. The key is consistency.
By making self-care a regular part of your life, it becomes a habit that nourishes your body, mind, and spirit.
Simple Practices to Start Your Own Self-Care Routine
Here are some easy ways to incorporate herbal self-care into your routine. Pick one or two to try this week and see how they make you feel.
1. Relaxing Herbal Tea

Start your morning or wind down your evening with a soothing cup of herbal tea.
Lavender, lemon balm, chamomile, rose petals, and linden flower are wonderful choices. Sweeten your tea with honey to add a touch of natural sweetness and lift your mood.
This small ritual can set the tone for your day or help you transition into a restful night.
2. Luxurious Bath Tea
If you know anything at all about me, you know this is my favorite form of self care.
Transform your bath into a spa-like experience with a simple herbal bath tea.
Use about a cup of dried herbs like lavender, rose petals, or calendula, and put them in a cloth bag or tea strainer. This keeps cleanup super easy while letting you soak in all the benefits. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and a cup or two of Epsom salt to enhance relaxation and leave your skin feeling silky smooth.
Make it a weekly ritual—Sunday evenings, maybe?

3. Soothing Facial Steam

Take 10 minutes for a facial steam before bed.
Add about 1/2 cup of dried herbs like chamomile or calendula to a bowl of steaming water. Lean over the bowl with a towel draped over your head to trap the steam.
Not only will this open your pores, but the calming aromas can help you unwind after a long day.
And you can add a drop or two of essential oil for an extra aromatic touch if you like.
4. Herbal Facial Mask or Scrub
Prepare a jar of dry ingredients for facial masks or scrubs so you have them ready whenever you need a quick self-care moment.
Combine ground oats with ground dried herbs like calendula or chamomile. You could even add some fascial clay to the mixture if you wanted to. When you’re ready to use it, mix a small amount with honey, yogurt or water to create a paste. Honey adds moisture and antibacterial properties and yogurt can moisturize and soothe your skin making either an excellent addition.
Use this as part of your weekly routine to give your skin a little extra love.

5. Calming Foot Soak

If a full bath feels like too much, a foot soak is a great alternative.
Use 1/2 to 1 cup of dried herbs and a scoop of Epsom salt in a basin of warm water.
It’s a simple yet effective way to relax and rejuvenate after a long day.
Tip: it’s easy to fit into your evening routine while reading or watching TV.

Make Your Self Care Routine Your Own
Your self-care routine should reflect you.
Maybe you love the idea of a relaxing bath every week, or perhaps a nightly cup of tea feels more manageable. The goal is to find what works for your schedule and makes you feel good.
If herbs aren’t your thing, *GASP* consider other simple practices like journaling, listening to music, or enjoying a walk in nature. Whatever you choose, the most important part is carving out that time and honoring it as non-negotiable.
The Gift of Consistency
Consistency is the secret ingredient to making your self-care routine impactful. Over time, these small moments add up to create a sense of balance and well-being in your life.
When you take care of yourself, you’re better equipped to handle stress, care for others, and tackle life’s challenges with energy and positivity.
So, start small. Choose one practice and commit to it this week. Let yourself enjoy the process, and don’t worry about perfection.
Self-care is about showing yourself love and kindness, and that can look however you want it to. Before you know it, your self-care routine will feel like a natural and essential part of your life.
